Auto Solutions 2000, an East Midlands based car dismantler with over 30 years of experience in the trade, is on an ambitious growth journey that includes implementation of a successful growth strategy and continuous improvements.
The company had already made significant progress in modernising its facilities and is working on their own online parts shop. However, with a rapid expansion comes the need to facilitate more stock and, considering limited yard space, it only made sense to maximise vertical capacity of the yard with help of racking.
This is when Auto Solutions 2000 reached out to Wickens, a leading racking supplier with over 40 years of experience in designing, manufacturing and installing racking systems for various industries, including vehicle recycling. Some of the reasons why the project was given to Wickens included the impressive quality of the racks, good communication and flexible planning as well as no hidden costs at the quoting stage.
Wickens supplied a total of 36 car racks that can store up to four vehicles in height. The mixture of single and double-sided racks helped maximise the use of floor space, and with racking spanning 6.2m in height, allowed simple access and manoeuvring of stored vehicles with a forklift truck.
Tony Patsides, General Manager at Auto Solutions, confirmed that Wickens’ contribution has had a positive effect on business operations:
“Not only does the racking enhance the look of the yard, but we now store 224 vehicles in a space previously occupied by approx. 80 vehicles. Thanks to the racking system, we now have a vehicle location system which makes the job more efficient, productive and reduces damage so more parts can be added to our inventory.”
Wickens has completed numerous car rack projects of various sizes and is well aware how a well-planned and executed car racking project ca transform dismantlers’ business operations. However, there are important considerations to take into account during the planning stage.
Dave Wheatley, Sales Director at Wickens, comments, “It is important that the racking systems are structurally suitable for the heavy load, there is enough space to manoeuvre the forklift and that the end result is as per customer’s expectations; at Wickens, we ensure that the project management is taken care off from the initial site survey to manufacture and installation.”
