Specialist racking company Wickens has completed a major project for East Lothian Council enabling it to maximise use of available space at its roads depot in Macmerry and to handle the storage of Street Lighting posts of varying lengths in an efficient and safe way.
Wickens was approached to design, build and install a racking system that could cope with the storage of lighting posts of between 4 metres and 12 metres in length at a site which featured a slope down its 40 metre long boundary.
To tackle this issue, Wickens surveyed the site and then recommended the construction of separate racks for each individual post length. This made it easier for the site supervisor to segregate different sized posts and made stock control much easier.
Concrete plinths were also designed to enable East Lothian Council to complete the necessary groundworks prior to the racking installation. Finally the Wickens team completed the racking installation in just one day, minimising any disruption of services on site.
Alan Stubbs, Roads Services Contracts Manager of East Lothian Council comments: “We approached Wickens to design a storage solution for our lighting columns. The challenge was that we had limited space available within a sloped site. Wickens came to site where we discussed our requirements and they then designed a solution. We are pleased with the end product which has allowed us to maximise the limited space available, the site area looks a lot tidier and this will improve the working environment for our operatives.”
